For over 20 years, I’ve been on the front lines of acute care as an ER doctor, but it was a heartbreaking personal loss that truly transformed my path.

In 2018, I lost my mom—who was the healthiest person I knew—to a neurodegenerative disease. Despite being a doctor, I felt helpless and powerless. It made me question everything I thought I knew about health and wellness.

We all love the cozy atmosphere a scented candle brings, but did you know that many of them contain harmful toxins that could impact your health—especially your fertility?

One of the main culprits is phthalates, a chemical used in synthetic fragrances. Phthalates are known endocrine disruptors, meaning they can interfere with your hormones, potentially leading to infertility and other health issues.

Even candles labeled “phthalate-free” aren’t necessarily safe, as they may still contain other toxic chemicals like benzophenone and styrene. So, what’s the alternative?

Opt for candles made with pure, single essential oils, and remember: always check the label. “Essential oil blends” or “fragrance” could be hiding artificial ingredients that can still affect your health.
